Cottage Grove Council member Steve Dennis announces re-election bid

COTTAGE GROVE — Council member Steve Dennis is looking to continue on the Cottage Grove City Council for another term.

Dennis announced May 1 that he would be seeking a second term after being first elected in 2014. He currently serves on the Economic Development Authority, City Investment Committee and as the Planning Commission liaison

“About four and a half years ago, a small business owner and resident decided to step up and take a chance to see if I could work to make a difference,” Dennis said during a press conference. “And I think we’ve been able to do just that.”

Dennis touts the record residential and commercial permit valuation the city has reached in the past couple years, saying that he wants “to keep the progress going,” because there’s still work to do.

He said he’s learned a lot in his first term, and would bring that experience back if re-elected.

“It’s a job that takes time to really become proficient at,” Dennis said.

He is a Cottage Grove business owner, who opened Dennis Brothers Liquor 15 years ago. He’s lived in the city with his wife and two now-grown children for nearly 30 years.

Council member Dave Thiede’s seat will also be on the ballot for the Nov. 6 election.

While wrapping up their terms, Dennis and Thiede held a town hall meeting May 3 for residents to bring comments and concerns.
